Yellow Barn Farm, in partnership with Herb’n Soil, proudly hosts From Lawn to Resilient Life: Soil & Plants — Know Your Ground, an immersive, hands-on workshop focused on designing biodiverse, food-producing backyard ecosystems. Featuring guidance from agroecologist Nelson Heider-Kuhn, this session blends soil science, ecological design, and practical land stewardship.

This special event is part of a two-class educational series and invites the community to gather for learning, connection, and a shared commitment to regenerating land, food systems, and local resilience.

Highlights / What to Expect:

  • Class 1 — Soil & Plants: You'll learn how to read your land, test and build your soil, and understand the underground systems that make everything grow. From there, you'll explore how to select and establish native and edible plants that thrive in your specific conditions — laying the living foundation your backyard ecosystem needs.

  • Class 2 — Insects & Food Production: With healthy soil and plants in place, you'll discover how to attract and support the pollinators and beneficial insects that bring your garden to life. You'll learn how to design plant guilds that produce both food and habitat, and leave with a clear seasonal planting plan tailored to your space and focused on real abundance.

Instructor Info:

  • Led by Nelson Heider-Kuhn, a Longmont, CO–based agroecologist, soil scientist, and regenerative agriculture educator.

Price:

  • Range: $100-$150
